![]() ![]() One of these occasions is prior to the celebration of the Balinese New Year, when all Bali-Hindu communities march in procession to the sea for purification. ![]() At certain times the masks are asked to make themselves known, and are ceremonially purified at rivers or the sea. Sacred masks are created by order of the deities, and serve as symbols of protective spirits for the communities that possess them. The night before Nyepi young adults in the communities, parade giant, demonic images they have created, along with torches and cacophonous percussive Gamelan through the villages in order to chase out malevolent spirits, cleansing the island for the New Years day (Nyepi). Offerings are also made in order to maintain balance and harmony. The Balinese believe in both high and low spirits, and both are given offerings to acknowledge their existence. In 2018 this major ritual will take place over four days, March 14-17. The dates when it happens one year will be different the next. We could not wait to visit other beautiful places the following day.The Bali-Hindu calendar is on a 210 day cycle, which, for the purpose of efficiency, is over-laid on the Gregorian calendar. They were Wisnu and his bird, called Garuda.Īfter a very long journey, through the land and the sea, we finally got back to the hotel. The scenery was so beautiful because it was in the middle of the sea! Next, we went to Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK). But, I chose to go to a little island which had a lot of reptile. There were so many activities to do there, like parasailing, banana boat, and so on. After that, we went to the Nusa Dua Beach. It was still early morning, we saw a beautiful sunrise.Īfter watching the sunrise, we were driven to the hotel to take a rest and to have meals. All of my tirednes was gone when we arrived at the Sanur Beach, where our hotel was located. ![]() We did many things together, like playing games, laughing, and joking. Actually, it was an enjoyable journey because I spent time with my friends. I was so exhausted because I had to sit along the journey. The journey from Pati to Bali took one day. My teacher, my classmates, and I were in the same bus. I went there with my teacher and my friends. ![]() I was in senior high school when I went to Bali Island for the first time. ![]()
